From a recent
article in the newspaper I learned that the famous French
designer Phillipe Starck completed re-design of his first
stylish hotel in
Asia. Not too long ago JIA was opened at Causeway Bay
in Hong Kong. The hotel was designed and personally
decorated by Mr. Starck. I was very
excited so decided to stay at the hotel for a couple of days.
An old traditional apartment building was totally
transformed by the Master's
renovation and sophisticated design. Everything is there for
you. A microwave, cooking utensils, and silverware - everything
you need - is
provided for you in your hotel suite. Even the television is
set on a 360
degree revolving stand so you can watch movies or your favorite
program from the comfort of your sofa or bed. Most conveniently
you can bury yourself in the huge sofa bed while enjoying the
magnificent view as you do your laundry in the out door laundry
area located on the second floor deck.
The hotel provides a complimentary breakfast.
Complimentary wine, tea, and snacks are served in the afternoon
for hotel guests. The lobby is not
spacious but it is elegant enough to host your visitors. The
bar is located
in a corner of the lobby and features sleek and trendy
designed by the Master himself the chairs and bar can be enjoyed
of art by themselves.
It will cost you a bundle to have the comforts of home
the hotel brags
about. Somehow, I think the money spent refurbishing the hotel
spent wisely. Its obvious the design work was expensive, but I
find a green plant or bouquet of fresh flowers anywhere in the
What fly in the ointment these omissions were!!
Phillipe Starck designs include everything.
The Felix restaurant on 28th
floor of Peninsula Hotel. You can also find his 360
degree rotating glasses
in a glasses store in Lan Kwai Fong in Central District.
